The Power of Art

On 22 March, six female high school graduation artists under the supervision of Katarzyna Gągol created six different artistic concepts, which can be viewed until 29 March at the Śródmieście Cultural Centre in 2 Jerozolimskie Avenue.

The artists asked bold questions using a wide variety of techniques:

Nina A. with her Heavenly Bodies project, inspired by the film of the same title, tries to capture the essence of the aesthetics of Christian art and express it through non-standard methods: she tries to replace the luminosity of stained glass with collage, searches for beauty in folk monikers, and uses fabric and assemblage.

Nina D. in her Body Comfort considers the theme of body awareness and feeling, inner and outer comfort. Using a wide range of creative methods, from classical watercolour and pastel to customised relief and sculpture in foam, sponges or paper, she seeks to make the viewer reflect on corporeality.

Nina K. considers the theme of Growth – growth in all its aspects. Through installations, watercolours and textiles, she tries to capture what growth is, whether it is a physical growth that is a biological process, a growth that results from the passage of time or a spiritual growth that is experienced through significant experiences.

Iga seeks to show what is constant in us and our surroundings despite the passage of time. Through juxtapositions of photography and painting, painting techniques and installations, she makes us aware of the transience of memories, considers how we perceive changes in ourselves and our loved ones, what we mean by the word home.

By presenting fashion designs as well as prints and bas-reliefs, Nela elevates fashion to the status of art and considers the theme of our inattention to the vulnerability and fragility of our own hearts. All works are inspired by the text: wore my heart out on a chain around my neck, but now it’s missing*.

Alexandra explores the theme of  Digesting Reality, through the play of textures and colours in imaginative textiles, collages, glass and pastels inspired by organic shapes. Digestion is understood not only as a biological process, but also as a process of assimilating ideas, experiencing emotions and sensations, and perceiving the reality around us.
