In Helsinki

At the beginning of March, Marta Wierzbicka – Kotte and Agata Poddębska went to Helsinki to the Helsingin Suomalainen Yhteiskoulu (SYK) school for job shadowing programm. The teachers looked at the model of education, tutoring and career counseling at school, as well as ways of taking care of the mental health and well-being of students and teachers.

In terms of student profile and coexistence of Finnish and international branches, SYK is similar to 2 SLO. SYK also offers a lot of practical classes, such as woodwork, metalwork, sewing, cooking and music classes, which allow students to catch their breath. Not only the functioning of a wide range of manual and artistic classes, but also the counseling model and various small initiatives, such as yoga or breathing sessions supporting the well-being of students, made the teachers of 2 SLO become fascinated.

Apart from the everyday school activities, representatives of 2 SLOs also observed the inter-school Model European Parliament (MEP) sessions organized at that time in SYK.

Some of the Helsinki solutions can be successfully implemented in SLO 2.
