JasMUN 2024 Debates

From October 25 to 26, seven committees of the youth assembly of the nations of the world organized by the 2SLO community, i.e. JasMUN 2024 (Jasienica Model United Nations), met. The members of the Security Council reconsidered both the inclusion of the Afghan national team in the UN community and the situation of Afghan citizens in the international community. In addition, they sought ways to strengthen political institutions in Central Asia, with particular emphasis on the democratic succession of executive and legislative powers. The Historical Security Council dealt with the 1981 Iran-Iraq War and the 1990 Persian Gulf War. The Crisis Committee, in turn, debated the war in Lebanon. The Economic and Financial Committee considered the possibility of creating international rules to deal with the problem of tax havens and guidelines on crisis response to minimize the economic downturn in countries affected by natural disasters. The Human Rights Council debated on resolving the problem of violation of human rights by failing to provide safe working conditions and addressed the cruel treatment of prisoners of war, such as torture, rape and unjust imprisonment, in Northern Africa. The World Health Organization considered strengthening enforcement mechanisms and international cooperation to combat the illegal dumping of hazardous waste, including the transboundary movements and disposals of waste in developing countries, and discussed strategies to ensure access to clean water and prevent waterborne diseases. The European Council dealt with issues of integration of immigrants in EU member states in terms of cultural and religious values ​​and discussed Ukraine’s potential accession to the European Union. The Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee focused on the issue of arranged and forced marriages, with particular emphasis on the nations within the Asian continent, and on the issue of discrimination and labor rights of migrant workers in host countries. JasMUN 2024 ended on Sunday, October 27.
